She was aware of everything and nothing at the same time. She was aware that she was running, dodging massive trees swiftly. She knew that she was running barefoot because she could feel leaves crunching and twigs snapping, cutting into her foot. Not much could be heard over her shallow, rapid breathing, but she kept running. The feeling of her hair whipping against her face was as unpleasant as the pounding of her heart and lungs in her body and she was very aware of that too. She was vaguely aware that she was panicked and that there was a fox darting in and out of her vision quite a bit away, and he was distracting her.
Even though she was aware of all those things, She wasn't aware of why she was running in the bitter cold in a dress. Was she being chased? If so, why? And by who? Who would want to hurt her? Why was she even in a dress? Where had she been? If she had been in heels, where had they gone?
Finally the endless trees came to an end. She stood at the edge of a clearing. Her knees hit the leaf-covered ground hard and she fell forward. Or had she been pushed? Either way she was now laying face down, her nose filled with the sent of rotting, wet leaves. She was now aware of something else very important. Her hands were bound. Tightly. She couldn't get back up. She needed her hands, and she didn't have time to get her hands around in front of her by stepping backwards through the gap, a technique she had practiced many times.
She forced her body to roll over and she stared up at the canopy of a few leaves and the stars briefly before sighing loudly.
Her sigh was quickly answered by a voice. "What a pretty night to die, young one." Her eyes widened in fear at the man's voice and she drew in a breath. "Aw. What's wrong? You don't want to die in my arms? I promise it won't hurt. For long."
His pale face almost glowed in the faint starlight. His bright hazel eyes were alight with amusement. When he chuckled his teeth were very white and very straight and his canines were very sharp. His dark hair hung in his face as he looked down on her. Fear pulsed through her body and her heart beat so rapidly that he could hear it and he laughed again. "You are afraid to die. How cute," he whispered and knelt beside her. His hands were colder than ice as they brushed her blond hair out of her wet face. Tears clung to the tips of his thin fingers and he stuck one in his mouth. His eyes flickered with fire for a moment before slowing to a smolder once more.
He sat on the damp ground next to her, crossing his thin legs under him. The sleeves of his black shirt had been pushed up to his elbows and he gently lifted her into his lap, supporting her back with one arm and hugging her against him with the other. "Despite the cold you are warm," he muttered, flicking her hair over her shoulder, exposing her pale neck. The chain of her necklace rested on her bones neatly, but he quickly removed it, laying the diamond pendent in her lap. He pressed his lips against her neck softly and she whimpered. He opened his mouth slightly and breathed a laugh at her fright, his teeth lightly grazing her skin, causing her to shake with terror.
And just as suddenly he showed up, his teeth sank into her flesh, and he began to drink from her. She felt herself becoming dizzy and the night stars vanished as her eyes closed. The pain was excruciating, her body was on fire. And when the pain ended she was okay. She lay limp in his arms and he pulled away from her. He kissed her lips lightly as though he were wishing her goodnight, and slid her out of his lap and stood. He looked as though nothing had even occured as he walked away from her body and into the forest once more.
